Ms. Knight focuses her practice on regulatory compliance, environmental transactions, and due diligence, with particular emphasis on the Clean Air Act and its state equivalents.  She regularly counsels coke producers, petroleum product manufacturers, chemical companies, automotive part manufacturers, and other industrial clients on air and other environmental and safety matters.

Ms. Knight’s experience includes counseling clients regarding:

  • Applying for and complying with the requirements of Clean Air Act Title V operating permits and New Source Review (NSR) preconstruction permits (including Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) and Nonattainment NSR requirements).
  • The applicability of and compliance with various Clean Air Act New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs). 
  • Developments and requirements pertaining to Clean Air Act National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), in particular the Sulfur Dioxide (SO 2 ) NAAQS.
  • Compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and its state equivalents, including helping resolve OSHA citations.
  • Compliance with Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements.
  • Administrative, civil, and criminal environmental enforcement actions.
  • The environmental aspects of acquiring industrial facilities, including identifying and evaluating actual and potential environmental liabilities, and transferring environmental permits.

Ms. Knight has successfully represented homeless individuals seeking expungement of their non-conviction criminal records in order to obtain employment.  She has also assisted pro bono clients with contract disputes and immigration issues.

Ms. Knight is currently Co-Chair of the NAWL Women in Environment & Energy Law Practice Area Affinity Group.

During law school, Ms. Knight served on the Maryland Law Review, received a certificate of Concentration in Environmental Law, was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Recognition Award, and was an International Finalist in the International Environmental Moot Court Competition.  She also interned with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environmental Enforcement Section, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, the University of Maryland Environmental Law Clinic, and the Maryland Office of the Attorney General at the State Highway Administration.

Prior to law school, Ms. Knight worked for a biological consulting firm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
